What we do

Gold Star Tutoring works with students in two main areas: standardized test preparation and subject-based tutoring. Our philosophy is the same in both cases; give students what they need to succeed and they probably will.

How we do it

So, what is it that students need to succeed? In our experience, the two key ingredients that we can develop in students are skills and confidence. We can't just give students skills, because skills are the result of successfully applying knowledge. But we can, and do, give them the knowledge and support they need to develop skills. Similarly, we can't simply give students confidence, but by showing them how to achieve success by applying the knowledge and strategies we teach them, confidence naturally grows.

We believe that tutoring is most successful when there is a strong, trusting relationship between the tutor and the student. To this end, tutoring is conducted in a relaxed, friendly, and mutually-respectful setting. Even though students don't necessarily enjoy a particular subject, there's no reason why learning about it needs to be unpleasant. We work hard at making every tutoring session a positive experience and are constantly looking for ways to make the student's learning experience as productive and fun and possible. We want students to leave each session feeling better about both the subject they' re learning and their ability to learn it successfully.
